Versailles
Versailles was the royal residence of for a little more than a century. It also used to be the capital of the kingdom of France , now a wealthy suburb of Paris and still an important administrative and judicial centre. The city of Versailles is located in the western suburbs of Paris . When the château was built, Versailles was a country village. From 1682, when King Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in 1789, the Court of Versailles was the centre of power in “Ancien Régime” . Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy.
