River boat

At Paris, France the famous River Seine is 24 metres – 80 feet – above sea level and it is easily navigable. Its average depth is about eight metres and this level is strictly controlled using special reservoirs upstream that help to maintain its constant level through Paris.
The River Seine has a tidal section followed by a canalized section with four large multiple locks. Upstream from Paris there are seven locks more that ensure navigation. Through an eighth lock the river Yonne is reached at Monterau and from the mouth of this river larger ships can continue upstream the Seine. Navigation ends abruptly at Marcilly-sur-Seine, where there’s an ancient abandoned canal called Canal de la Haute Seine.
