In the 1700s the famous builder Cliquot finished the organ of the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Still today the organ has some of his original work. In the 1900s the organ was almost completely rebuilt by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll and later on Cavaille-Coll instrument was also modified and up-dated (you can see his original console at the Musée Notre Dame). The last modification of Notre Dame organ was completed in 1992.

As centuries passed by Notre Dame Cathedral was the scenery of many famous events in history - Napoleon Bonaparte was crowned Emperor in 1804, Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909, Henry VI of England was crowned King of France in 1431, the ‘Te Deum Mass’ took place to celebrate the liberation of Paris in 1944, and many more.

At the end of the 17th century, during the reign of Louis XIV and Louis XV many features in Notre Dame Cathedral were destroyed because Paris as well as Europe was trying to modernize its cathedrals and churches. During the French Revolution many sculptures and treasures were destroyed or stolen and the Cathedral was turn into the ‘Temple of Reason’.

The world famous novel ‘Notre Dame de Paris’ (‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’) by the French Novelist Victor Hugo was inspired by the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral.
