Dancing session in Paris
Dancing session in Paris

Paris is home to a range of communities from all regions of France, most notably the Basque Country and Brittany. In Paris in summer the banks of the Seine are the scene of free folk dances and music performances open to anyone, with a range of sounds and styles to enjoy. Born-and-bred Parisians, long term residents from outside the capital and tourists alike come together to eat, drink and make merry in the open air on languid summer evenings to the sound of traditional folk. You can pick from the distinctive sound of the Basque “Trikitxa” (a type of accordion), raucous Breton “Fest Noz” gatherings (meaning “festival of the night”, traditional dances involving all generations, similar to the “Célilidh” dances in and ) or the jaunty sounds of an Aveyron fiddle player. Lose the Paris attitude for one night and enjoy some old-fashioned fun!
